Fertilizer Guide
In appearance and general set-up this new "Fertilizer Guide" is similar to the first edition of 1967 because in our opinion it is doubtful whether changes would have resulted in improvements. The contents, however, have been re-written completely and supplemented with a multitude of new material and new fertilizer recommendations dating from the last five years. This is the reason why this Fertilizer Guide is more voluminous than the first and we feel happy in being able to pass on so much more information to those for whom this book is intended to be a guidance in fertilizing problems with regard to tropical and subtropical crops.
I was extremely lucky that also for this new edition of the Fertilizer Guide I had the help of Mr. D. J. HALLIDAY of Imperial Chemical Industries, who, besides his contribution in the form of many valuable suggestions, took upon him once again the rather boring task of revising the English phrase- ology. Although some of the new recommendations were provided directly by the
Research Institutes concerned, most of them were obtained from the large
number of periodicals and other publications to be found in the library of the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam through their monthly journal "Tropical Abstracts", the indispensable guide to the literature on tropical agriculture.
I take this opportunity to thank the library staff for their helpfulness and kind assistance.
Also the cooperation with RTI's team of experts, so often called upon to provide specialist advice on agricultural problems in tropical and sub- tropical countries, or to carry out technical assistance missions abroad, was highly appreciated.
